Association of Christian Students (ACS)

Fellowship Meets was a collaborative initiative with Jesus Youth Mumbai, aimed at facilitating intimacy through Christian companionship amidst the pandemic and the hassle of online. Quizzes, prayer meets, fun chit-chat sessions, testimonials, discussions, games, and more, every Fellowship Meet had a theme. Throughout this academic year we conducted 25+ Fellowship Meets. Everyone looked forward to this small time of companionship & growth.  With the agenda of spiritual growth, the ACS organised an Instagram live seminar on the Biblical book of Ruth. This 1 hour session was conducted by Mr. Rustom Jeejeebhoy. He gave deep insights into the life of Ruth, explaining how she perfectly came in obedience to the Lord through love, faithfulness & redemption. The secession was much appreciated by the club members. ACS in collaboration with Jesus Youth Mumbai conducted an online orientation of the JY Campus Ministries Mumbai for the students of Sophia College. The theme of this year's collaboration was SPARK - The Bloom of Youth. The program started with a small presentation about what this year’s collaboration entails. This was followed by interactive games, personal testimonials by team JY & ACS members who attended, a praise and worship session & ended with a short time of prayer. 2022-2023
Association of Christian Students (ACS)

At ACS, we aim to help (ourselves) and others come close to God and are reminded of his never- ending love for each one of us. “Shalom- Peace in His Presence”- a peace fortnight event aimed at helping others find peace within themselves by reflecting on God’s word with song and meditation. We held a Taize prayer session with lighted candles and had silent meditation, reflections, prayers, and songs of praise to help us get into a peaceful atmosphere.
Feast of the Assumption of Our Lady and 75th Independence Day was held on 15th August 2022 with mass at the chapel. ACS was in charge of preparing to celebrate the Holy Eucharist. The chapel was beautifully decorated with rangoli commemorating 75 years of independence. One of the highlights of the mass was the special aarti that took place during the offertory. It was done to signify a deeper meaning that symbolizes the connection with our Indian culture. Then came the first camp of the year - The Bhokar Camp. The camp included various interpersonal activities where we interacted with the students studying and residing at the center- Ashankur Women’s Centre, Ahmednagar District, Maharashtra. The environment was secluded from the city- a place where our fast-paced lives take over us and we tend to forget the beauty around us. The camp proved to be a much-needed break from our daily monotonous schedules. Later, another event called Mellow Time was conducted just before our SEEs could begin and so was a break from all the studies and assignments- a stress reliever.

SEPTEMBER

Eleganza Mismatched Edition

01/09/2023

AVF

The Eleganza Mismatched event, held at AV Front and Back on 1st of September, was a unique pageant show, judged by our college faculty, Ma'am Nishtha Dev and Ma'am Elwin John, which brought together students eager to showcase their mismatched fashion sense. The event started with upbeat music as students strutted down the ramp in outfits that were close to the theme Barbie-Oppenheimer. After the ramp walk, participants faced a round of questions where Ma'am Nishtha Dev and Ma'am Elwin John, posed thought-provoking questions. Winners were selected based on a mix of unique style, confidence on the runway, and the ability to articulate their thoughts during the question round. This was to also show how they presented themselves. A separate photography element allowed students to capture the event's essence and share their favourite moments. This added a fun touch to the overall experience and was a celebration of individuality and creative expression.

Inner Journey

30/09/2023

AV HALL

In the month of September, an event filled with significant energy, titled ‘Inner Journey’, was held, on 30th September 2023 at 1.30 pm bringing with it a transformative experience through dance. This event took place in the College’s AV hall, gathering approximately 35-40 students in anticipation of an experience that extended beyond mere dancing. Sister Charlotte initiated the event by sharing her own experiences with dance, particularly her memories of performing the Jive with her brother. As she discussed the importance of peace, the event evolved into a blend of movement and reflection. Motivated by the theme of peace, the students worked together to create a pose that symbolised the harmony they aimed to achieve. Through dance, they communicated emotions such as anger and sadness, creating a shared language that enriched our collective experience. As the music played, any initial hesitations disappeared, and the students fully engaged in the dance, each movement reflecting a deep grace that stemmed from within. The dance became more than a series of steps; it was an act of genuine expression and self-discovery, turning the dance floor into a sacred space for personal insight. To further this reflective journey, Sister Charlotte provided coloured pencils, prompting participants to draw ‘what defines you.’ Through this artistic endeavour, the event transformed into a collection of individual narratives that contributed to a larger, collective story. It was a celebration of unity, not only in physical movement but in the journey of exploring one’s inner self. Thus, the ‘Inner Journey’ event in September became a chapter of shared happiness, laughter, and self-exploration—a dance that moved beyond simple steps to become a deep investigation into the essence of the human spirit.

Fellowship Gathering

12/01/2023

Chapel

The ACS Club orchestrated a splendid fellowship gathering on the 12th of January at 11:30 AM, within the hallowed confines of the College Chapel. The esteemed Sister Deodita presided over the congregation, delving into the profound topic of faith. Accompanying us as an esteemed guest was Sister Vimala, whose presence added a special grace to the occasion.

The proceedings commenced with Anette eloquently reciting a passage from the Bible, centered around the poignant narrative of the paralyzed man and his encounter with Jesus. This scriptural foundation set the stage for insightful discussions on the essence of faith and its significance.

Participants engaged in a thoughtful dialogue, exploring the nuanced dimensions of "What is faith?" and "What does faith mean to oneself?" The biblical reflection served as a catalyst, opening up channels for

individuals to share personal anecdotes and reflections on their experiences of faith in their lives.

Sister Deodita, drawing from the rich tapestry of her journey toward becoming a nun, shared profound insights on the growth of faith, emphasizing the individuality of faith experiences and the intrinsic nature of personal beliefs. Sister Vimala also contributed to the discourse, offering her compelling narratives and perspectives on the profound subject of faith.

As the gathering unfolded, attendees found themselves enriched with a deeper understanding of the intricate layers of 'faith.' The event concluded on a celebratory note, capturing the essence of the occasion by immortalizing moments through photographs, ensuring that the fellowship left an indelible mark on the collective consciousness of all present.
